USDA Promotes Sage-grouse Protection Efforts in the Western United States

In partnership with NRCS, ranchers and farmers in 11 states are improving habitat of and reducing threats to the greater and Gunnison sage-grouse. Efforts improve land management, eliminate invasive plants, and remove dangers of wire fencing.

CIG Project Profile. Through a Conservation Innovation Grant, past grantee the Propane Education & Research Council uses a propane steam weed control machine, like this one to control weeds in orchards and vineyards. The project also included a low emissions irrigation system that allows real-time adjustments to irrigation pump operations. The combined system, deployed on a school farm in Northern California, provides chemical-free weed control and reduces farm equipment emissions. Atarus image.

USDA Seeks Applications for Grants to Help Farmers and Ranchers Improve Rural Environmental Quality and Energy Efficiency

USDA makes $25 million available through the Conservation Innovation Grants program to address natural resource concerns nationwide with a special emphasis on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and the Mississippi River Basin.

USDA Funds Conservation Projects for Water Quality Improvements in the Mississippi River Basin

The initiative supports continuing efforts to help landowners and farmers protect and improve water quality in the Mississippi River Basin in selected watersheds.  Up to $43 million in financial assistance is available through conservation programs to support more than 70 existing projects in the 12 states.
