PALM HARBOR, Fla. (Sept. 12) -- U.S.
Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Fla.), representing Florida's 9th
Congressional District, including parts of Pasco, Pinellas and
Hillsborough counties, will be joining thousands of Hillsborough County
residents in the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup on
Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at the Old
Lutz School House in Lutz, Fla.
Coordinated by local
non-profit group Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful (KHCB), and locally
dubbed "The Lutz Trash Bash", the International Coastal Cleanup is the
largest and most successful volunteer event of its kind. Since 1986
thousands of volunteers from around the globe have cleared over 100
million pounds of trash from 170,000 miles of shorelines, rivers,
lakes, and wetlands. Last year, more than 3,200 volunteers cleaned 90
miles of shorelines and collected about 63,766 pounds of trash in
Hillsborough County.
KHBC works to prevent litter, promote
recycling and conservation, clean up and beautify the community through
action, education, awareness and by fostering stewardship. More than
7,000 people in Greater Hillsborough County participated in volunteer
programs sponsored by KHCB over the past year. For more information
