Legislation will increase Federal Pell Grant limit per student
February, 1, 2007
Washington, D.C.
- Today, Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Palm Harbor)
introduced the "Increasing Access to Higher Education Act (H.R. 722). This
legislation will increase the maximum amount of money an eligible student may
receive each year through the Federal Pell Grant Program.
"In today's global economy, the need for America's youth to receive a
college education has never been greater," Rep. Bilirakis said. "We need to
work to continue to make the possibility of a college education real for every
American, and this bill moves us closer to such a reality."
H.R. 722 expands the cap on Federal Pell Grants per year from $4,050 to
$4,810 per year for eligible students. This increase is $500 more than that
proposed by the Democrats in their budget continuing resolution.
"Today's students are tomorrow's leaders and I ask my colleagues, on both
sides of the aisle, to join me in making higher education more available to
every American," Bilirakis added.
