March 12, 2007, LEWISBURG – A portion of a federal U.S. Department of Transportation grant will help South Central Tennessee Development District provide transportation for Marshall County residents who need it, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced.
“The Bus and Bus-Related Facilities program provides funding for new and replacement buses and related equipment and facilities,” Gordon said. “South Central Tennessee Development District will use the funds to replace vans and upgrade equipment.”
For its 13-county service area, SCTDD will receive $189,617 to purchase seven vans and new radios for the vans to meet upcoming Federal Communications Commission mandates. Marshall County will receive one conversion without a lift, according to Sanford Potts, SCTDD Transportation Program director. In November 2006, SCTDD replaced a lift van with a new conversion lift van for use in Marshall County.
“We appreciate the efforts of Congressman Bart Gordon in helping to secure capital assistance funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation,” Potts said. “These funds help purchase equipment to provide safe and efficient community transportation to shopping, health care, child care, nutrition sites for the elderly, employment and other needed services.”
