June 1, 2007, GORDONSVILLE – A $450,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan to the Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation will be used to help Shiroki of North America expand its business operations and create 400 jobs, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced today.
Shiroki of North America, an automotive supply manufacturer, has landed the contract to provide parts to the Toyota plant being built in Tupelo, Miss., according to Upper Cumberland Membership Corporation Executive Director Carl Brandt.
“This investment has an immediate return, with new jobs and a positive impact on the local economy,” Gordon said. “The funds will be used to make improvements to an industrial building necessary for Shiroki’s expansion.”
Brandt said Shiroki of North America has already bought and renovated the facility and is moving equipment in. The company hosted an open house two weeks ago, which included about 35 employees as guests.
“This is going to be big for us,” Brandt said. “We’re real excited about the Shiroki plant and are looking forward to it being operational in the next year or so.”
The zero interest loan is payable over 10 years.
“Our business programs provide assistance to businesses, not-for-profit organizations and public bodies to improve the economic climate in rural communities,” said Rural Development State Director Mary Ruth Tackett. “I am proud that we are part of this partnership with Congressman Gordon, Upper Cumberland Electric and the Industrial Development Board that is helping Shiroki compete and create good jobs in Tennessee.”
