Democrats put American families in control of their own health care and ended a system that put profits ahead of patients with the enactment of health care reform. The law also includes a “Patient’s Bill of Rights,” which contains provisions that have already gone into effect to end the worst insurance company abuses: parents will be allowed to keep their children on their insurance plans up to age 26, and insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny coverage for children with pre-existing conditions, put lifetime limits on coverage or drop people when they get sick.
