He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1972 and served twice subsequently as a Pulitzer juror. His work has been honored by the American Bar Association and the New Jersey Press Association. He entered journalism in Boston as a newsman for United Press and was subsequently assigned to its Newark and Trenton bureaus. " Prior to the Sept. 11 attack, Soliman started his career as the managing editor of the Gazette-Leader, a weekly newspaper for the towns of Elizabeth and Hillside in New Jersey. Soliman is the recipient of a writing award from the New Jersey Press Association, and has traveled abroad extensively, having visited such countries as Egypt, India, Greece, Romania, Canada and Mexico. Gov. Jon Corzine appointed Soliman to serve on the Arab-American Heritage Commission, created by executive order in 2008. Soliman is currently pursuing his Juris Doctorate degree from the Rutgers School of Law in New Jersey, and lives with his wife, Aya.

In 2000, Susan sold the successful restaurant and embarked upon a second career in community newspapers, becoming editor of The Ridgewood News in the fall of 2001. She subsequently served as food editor, then food and entertainment editor for (201) Magazine prior to becoming food editor for The Record in September, 2010. Susan is a professional member of the James Beard Foundation, the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association and Montclair Editors and Writers. She lives — and cooks — in Montclair, N.J. with her husband, photographer Ted Axelrod, and her son.
