Pence - Washington Doesn't Tax Too Little, It Spends Too Much

Pence: Washington Doesn't Tax Too Little, It Spends Too Much

JULY 20, 2010

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, gave the following statement today at a House Republican leadership press conference:

“Given the recent political rhetoric from the White House about letting tax cuts expire, one thing is clear. Democrats in Washington still don’t get it. In the midst of the worst economy in 25 years, the Democrats are actually talking about embracing what would be the largest tax increase in American history. You know, I don’t know anybody back in Indiana who thinks they pay too little in taxes.

“The American people deserve to know that, should Democrats get their way, every income tax bracket will increase on January 1, 2011. Every single one. You know, you don’t raise taxes on every American taxpayer during the worst recession in 25 years. As we’ve done on their failed stimulus policy, as we did on their national energy tax, as we did on their government takeover of health care, House Republicans will stand in the gap to protect taxpayers from the largest tax increase in American history.

“The American people know that Washington doesn’t tax too little, Washington spends too much. House Republicans are on the side of the American people."
