Pence Vows to Stand With Small Businesses Against Tax Increases

MARCH 16, 2009

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, made the following statement after meeting with Indiana small business leaders:

"It's clear that small businesses are hurting during these tough economic times. Massive tax hikes are the last thing small businesses need right now.  Unfortunately, that is exactly what the President is attempting to do in his budget.  As our economy continues to lose thousands of jobs by the day, it makes no sense to place an even heavier burden on job creation.

"The Administration's latest proposal will do little to help small businesses overcome the crushing tax burden promised in the President's budget.  This modest new proposal is meant to sweeten the palates of small businesses before forcing down their throats the largest tax hike in American history.  Small businesses want the economic freedom to grow, to prosper and to make it on their own, and they don't want a federal government that stands in the way."
