Obama vs. Obama - Taxes

Obama vs. Obama - Taxes

A Tale of Two Presidents

MARCH 3, 2009

President Obama promises that taxpayers making less than $250,000 would not have their taxes "increased a single dime."

President Barack Obama: "But let me [be] perfectly clear...if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime." (Statement Before a Joint Session of Congress, 2/24/2009)

A MERE TWO DAYS LATER, the President submitted a budget proposal that included some very taxing energy provisions.

The President's budget proposal - submitted JUST TWO DAYS after his no new tax pledge - includes a cap and tax energy plan that imposes at least $646 billion in new energy taxes that will be paid by every American household. (President Obama's Budget Proposal - pdf)

"Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket... That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.' (Meeting with Editorial Board at the San Francisco Chronicle, January, 2008.)
