In a series of reports on healthcare associated infections, Chairman Waxman today released a GAO report on state and hospital efforts to reduce these deadly infections. GAO found that 23 states have mandated reporting of hospital associated infections, but more can be done to improve the quality of the data. GAO also looked at 14 individual hospital initiatives to reduce hospital associated MRSA, one common type of hospital associated infection.
