“Crisis in Kyrgyzstan: Fuel, Contracts, and Revolution along the Afghan Supply Chain”
On Thursday April 22, 2010 the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs held an oversight hearing to address the causes of the recent revolution and political turmoil in Kyrgyzstan and explore Kyrgyzstan’s critical role in the supply chain for the U.S. and NATO war effort in Afghanistan. The Subcommittee also received testimony about allegations of corruption related to U.S. fuel contracts at the Manas Air Base, a critical transit and re-supply hub for the U.S. military effort in Afghanistan. The Subcommittee is conducting an investigation into allegations that contracts to supply fuel to the Manas Air Base substantially enriched family members of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who was forcefully ousted from office.
