WASHINGTON, DC (September 23, 2010) – The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation’s leading small business association, today named Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-9) a Guardian of Small Business for his outstanding voting record on behalf of America’s small business owners.
“In the 111th Congress, Rep. Bilirakis proved that he is a champion of small business,” said NFIB President and CEO Dan Danner. “The Guardian of Small Business Award is a token of the deep appreciation that small business owners have for elected officials who promote and protect their right to own, operate and grow their businesses.”
The NFIB tallies key small business votes in the House of Representatives taken during the 2009 and 2010 sessions and presents the Guardian awards to representatives who voted favorably on those issues.
The National Tax Limitation Committee (NTLC) also honored Bilirakis with its 111th Congress “Tax Fighter Award.”
“Bilirakis has been a major asset to taxpayers across America during his congressional service, having earned the Tax fighter Award consistently in every session of Congress,” said NTLC President Lewis K. Uhler. “Bilirakis has had the courage to challenge the orthodoxy of Washington spending and earmarks.”
Since 1975 the NTLC has worked to limit taxes and spending and to reduce the size and scope of government at all levels.
