TARPON SPRINGS, FL (August 26, 2010) – Students interested in attending a service academy and committing to serving the nation’s military will have the opportunity to meet with Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) and representatives from the nation’s five service academies about the application and nomination process this Saturday (August 28).
Applicants to all service academies, except the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, are required to obtain a nomination to the school. Nominations can come from the Member of Congress representing that candidate’s district, from a U.S. Senator from the candidate’s state, or from the Vice President.
Rep. Bilirakis and members of his staff will have nomination packets and will answer questions on other requirements and how the nomination process works.

The five service academies include: U.S. Military Academy (West Point); U.S. Naval Academy; U.S. Air Force Academy; U.S. Coast Guard Academy; and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Representatives of the ROTC also will be available for discussion at the fair.
