$4 Million Grant Awarded to Sacramento County for McClellan Air Force Base Transition

(Washington, DC)— Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) announced that the Department of Commerce has issued a $4,046,270 investment grant to the County of Sacramento for improvements to utilities and facilities at the decommissioned McClellan Air Force Base.

Congressman Lungren announced, “I am pleased that the County of Sacramento has been awarded this grant from the Department of Commerce.  As the BRAC Commission is considering another round of base closures, it is important that former military installations like McClellan Air Force Base are converted to commercial use offering tangible benefits to the surrounding communities.”

The federal grant will assist the County of Sacramento with their efforts to transition the former Air Force base into a thriving economic hub for the region.  Since the closure of McClellan Air Force Base, the Economic Development Department of Sacramento County has worked tirelessly to acquire federal dollars through grants, appropriations, and remediation efforts to convert the facility into a useable commercial site.

McClellan Air Force Base is composed of 3,778 acres. It has 155 industrial buildings totaling over 4 million square feet; 35 warehouses totaling 4,035,752 square feet and a single 10,600 foot runway.

McClellan Air Force Base is located in both Congressman Lungren’s 3rd Congressional District and the 5th Congressional District.
