Congressional Art Contest

I was delighted to once again host the Congressional Art Competition for the 3rd Congressional District. The Competition was created in 1982 to showcase the great artistic talents of high school students throughout the country.

Over the years, I have been inspired by the tremendous artistic talents and imaginations of the young people here in our District.  The diversity in subject, media and style has resulted in the great variety of works we saw in our exhibit again this year.  Students entered over 60 pieces from a number of public and private high schools.

The first place winner is awarded three round-trip airline tickets and two nights lodging accommodations in Washington D.C., where they will attend the national ceremony with winners from throughout the United States.  The first place winning art piece will hang in the Capitol’s Cannon Tunnel for one year.

I am very pleased with all the entries and look forward to seeing our students grow as artists and citizens.

Thank you to all who participated in the 2010 Congressional Art Competition and I wish you much success in all your future endeavors.
