Pence - 'We Are Facing a Fiscal Disaster'

Pence: "We Are Facing a Fiscal Disaster"

JULY 23, 2010

White House budget report offers a grim assessment of Washington Democrats’ $6 trillion spending spree.

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, released the following statement today after the president’s Office of Management and Budget issued its Mid-Session Review which projected a record annual deficit for the 2010 federal budget:

“We are facing a fiscal disaster. This year alone the deficit is projected to surpass last year’s record and soar to $1.47 trillion. Deficits over the next ten years are expected to reach $8.4 trillion.

“Four years ago, then-Senator Barack Obama said our nation’s ‘rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy.’ As president, he has done little to confront this domestic enemy, spending over $6.1 trillion in the first 18 months of his presidency.

“The message of today’s report is unambiguous: Washington desperately needs real leadership. We cannot continue to postpone the hard choices and sacrifices that are necessary to stop this fiscal train wreck.”
