MEMORANDUM

To: Congressional Republicans
Fr: Democratic Leader’s Press Office
Dt: June 30, 2011
Re: Desperation is Not a Good Look for You and Your Special Interest Friends

Enough already!

You are starting to sound desperate—saying or doing just about anything, at the expense of America’s middle class, to protect tax breaks for Big Oil, companies that ship jobs overseas, and the wealthiest Americans.

Who’s really buying the Senate Republican Leader’s latest empty gesture—inviting the President to Capitol Hill so you can complain in person about how your special interest friends absolutely, positively need their tax cuts, even at the risk of economic catastrophe?

And the sudden demand for a balanced budget amendment is nothing more than a guise to continue ignoring the will of the American people and advance your agenda: ending Medicare while delivering tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

It’s time for you to have an “adult conversation,” as Speaker Boehner said long ago, and work with Democrats to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, preserve Medicare, and reduce the deficit in a responsible way.
