2012 Capitol Christmas Tree
The 2012 Capitol Christmas Tree arrived in Washington on November 26, 2012.
A 74-year-old, 65-foot Engelman spruce from Colorado’s Blanco Ranger District of the White River National Forest arrived at the U.S. Capitol’s West Front Lawn on November 26 to stand as the 2012 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
Harvested on November 2, the tree stopped at 28 communities along its 1,700 mile journey to Washington. It will be decorated with 5,000 ornaments, handmade by Coloradans, marking this year’s Capitol Christmas Tree theme, “Celebrating Our Great Outdoors.”
House Speaker John Boehner will light the tree during a ceremony on December 4, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. It will remain lit daily between nightfall and 11:00 p.m. until December 26.
