HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES APPROVES FUNDING FOR LOCAL WATER PROJECTS
Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the House of Representatives has approved funding for projects in the 12th Congressional District as part of the final Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill. The legislation will next be considered by the Senate before being sent to the President for signature.
“It is significant that this is among the first appropriations bills to be passed by Congress,” said Costello. “We are dealing with serious water infrastructure needs in our region and around the country and it is important to put these resources to work on these projects.”
The projects include:
- Alton to Gale Organized Levee Districts - $283,000 for levee repairs and maintenance. The funds will help levee districts in St. Clair and Madison Counties.
- East St. Louis and Vicinity - $500,000 for engineering and construction.
- Kaskaskia Navigation System - $2.041 million for operation and maintenance.
- Madison/St. Clair Counties - $165,000 for sewer infrastructure improvements.
- Wood River Levee, Madison County - $1.05 million to continue construction of relief wells and increase the levee’s level of protection.
- Prairie DuPont Levee - $628,000 to complete Limited Reevaluation Report and initiate feasibility study for reconstruction.
- Chain of Rocks Canal - $6.141 million to continue construction of north levee berms and other projects.
- Illinois Community College Sustainability Network - $250,000 for green technology job training programs and facility improvements at community colleges throughout Illinois.
