Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that several municipalities in the region have been awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grants, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, are through two HUD programs. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program enables communities to undertake a wide range of activities intended to create suitable living environments, provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities. The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP) offers communities the resources to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or to quickly re-house those who are currently homeless.
“By providing assistance for housing and economic development, this funding will do a great deal in improving the quality of life within our region,” Costello said. “These are excellent examples of the Recovery Act at work in our communities and I will continue to support these efforts.”
