PUBLIC DISASTER ASSISTANCE APPROVED FOR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS COUNTIES

Informational Meeting on Disaster Relief Today at 11:00 a.m. in Tamms

WASHINGTON – Federal Public Disaster Assistance was approved last night for 21 Southern Illinois counties, including Alexander, Franklin, Jackson, Perry, Pulaski, Randolph, Union and Williamson in the 12th Congressional District. The declaration allows state and local governments to apply for reimbursement for 75 percent of their eligible expenses related to damage from storms and flooding that began in April. Federal Individual Disaster Assistance was approved earlier this week.

U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) strongly supported both disaster assistance requests and will hold an informational meeting regarding what assistance is available and how to apply at 11:00 a.m. central this morning in Tamms at the Egyptian School cafeteria, 20023 Diswood Road.
