WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Shawnee Community College, located in Ullin, has been awarded two grants – one in the amount of $11,470 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the other in amount of $17,489 – from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Both grants will be used to provide scholarships to disadvantaged students.
“These are important resources to help students obtain a higher education,” said Costello. “This assistance is especially critical during a tough economy. A quality education will prepare these students for the rigors of the job market, and students are turning to our community colleges to do this as affordably as possible.”
