Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that two Southern Illinois jurisdictions will receive funds through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program of the U.S. Department of Justice to purchase bulletproof vests for local police officers. The grants will be used to replace Zylon-based body armor vests and will pay for up to 50% of the cost of the vests.
"I am pleased that these federal awards will supplement local funds to provide additional protective equipment for police officers in the 12th Congressional District," said Costello, a former law enforcement official.
