Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Science Center, located in Carbondale, has been awarded a $60,176 grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The funds will be used to renovate a donated cockpit simulator and develop summer camp and after school programs as well as special programs and workshops for educators and organizations.
"Projects like this that emphasize hands-on science education are a big part of keeping kids interested in math and science," said Costello. "A strong economy depends on our ability to nurture the next generation of engineers and scientists."
