SIUC RECEIVES HUMANITIES GRANT

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today a research project at Southern Illinois University Carbondale has received a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities:

• $100,000 for Nixtun-Ch'ich', Pet'en, Guatemala :  An Archaeological and Historical Investigation of the Pete'n Itza.  The grant covers three seasons of fieldwork, analysis and interpretation at Nixtun-Ch'ich', Pet'en, in northern Guatemala. 

"Projects such as this one enhance the academic reputation of the university and add a great deal to the learning environment of the community," said Costello.  "I will continue to support these efforts."
