Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Franklin-Williamson Human Services, based in West Frankfort, has been awarded a $82,000 Mentoring Children of Prisoners grant from the Administration on Children, Youth and Families of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funds will be used for supporting the creation and maintenance of one-on-one mentoring relationships between children of incarcerated parents and supportive adult mentors.
"Nearly two million children in the United States experience the economic, social, and emotional effects of having an incarcerated parent. These funds will provide young people with caring role models for future success."
