SIUC RECEIVES U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GRANT

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University at Carbondale has been awarded a $167,615 Child Care Program grant through the U.S. Department of Education.  The grant amount is for the first year of an expected four years, and will be used to support the Reduced Fees Program, renovate the playground and help with staff compensation at the Rainbow's End childcare facility. 

"Having an affordable child care option allows many students to attend college," said Costello. "A college degree in turn lets the students earn a better living and better support their families.  This program benefits the University, the students and our entire region and I will continue to support it."
