Honda Receives 100% Rating from Hispanic Groups PDF Print E-mail

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-San José), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, today received a 100% rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA) for the first and second sessions of the 108th Congress, reflecting his ongoing commitment to securing basic civil rights and providing a better quality of life for all Hispanics.

The NHLA compiled the legislative scorecard to inform Hispanics about Senators and Members of Congress’s record on issues of importance to Hispanic communities, with Honda rating a perfect 100%.

"I’m proud to represent California’s 15th Congressional District, one of the most culturally diverse areas of the country, and I appreciate the many contributions Hispanics make with their work ethic and family values,” Honda said. “I am pleased to have received such a high rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, and I believe it fairly reflects my commitment to the needs of Hispanic Americans."

As CAPAC Chair, Honda regularly coordinates with his allies on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus to address issues of import to the diverse communities they represent. Most recently, he led the Tri-Caucus effort to draft legislation – scheduled to be introduced as early as this week – that addresses health disparities by providing quality healthcare for immigrant and minority patients across the country.

The NHLA scorecard is based on votes on a diverse set of issues that have a direct impact on Hispanics and their families. Congressman Honda consistently voted in favor of helping the Hispanic community move ahead on issues ranging from education, health care, economic mobility, workforce, and civil rights.

"I will continue to address the issues that are important to Hispanic families in California and across the country – improving education to open the doors of opportunity, providing access to affordable health care, fighting for a fair immigration policy, and giving Hispanic families the tools they need to succeed,” Honda said.
