STEARNS TO TOUR OCALA'S LATEST HI-TECH ADDITION ON MONDAY, JANUARY 25TH

WILL VISIT THE FLORIDA INSTITUTE FOR HUMAN & MACHINE COGNITION

Washington, Jan 21, 2010 - WASHINGTON, JAN. 21, 2010 – “ A vibrant, growing economy requires innovation, and I welcome the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition’s (IHMC’s) new research facility in Ocala,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). “In addition, IHMC will showcase Ocala by holding high-level research forums that bring highly specialized scientists, engineers, and researchers from various sectors together to develop solutions to questions of scientific significance. This is another important step in expanding north central Florida as a major research and hi-tech region.”

On Monday, January 25th, Stearns will receive a briefing on the work at the facility and then a tour, and at around noon he will make brief comments and questions will be taken. The new facility is in the old Public Library building, 15 S. Osceola Avenue in Ocala.

The origins of what is now the IHMC began as a small computer science unit in Pensacola in 1990. After years of growth in human-machine interaction research, the Florida Legislature created the IHMC to serve as a statewide not-for-profit research institute. The research and innovations at IHMC focus on enhancing human performance through the use of advanced technologies. The official opening of the IHMC Ocala facility will take place on January 29, 2010.
