Previously employed in the State Department 1991-1994, she served as an analyst working on the Balkans and a political officer in the U.S. Embassy Tirana. Ms. Helwig earned an M.A. in Art History from the University of Louisville as a N.B. Nettleroth Merit and a Hite scholar, as well as a B.A. in History & Classics, and was a National Merit Scholar. She has knowledge of German, French, Spanish, Albanian, ancient Greek and Latin.
