On October 26, 2011 the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Paul Gosar’s (R-AZ) major job legislation, H.R. 1904 with bipartisan support. The Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act of 2011, facilitates a land exchange that will bring into federal stewardship 5,500 acres of high-priority conservation lands in exchange for 2,600 acres of national forest system. This exchange would then allow the largest copper mine in the country to proceed.

House Passes Gosar Initiatives to Protect Arizona Jobs and Water

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar’s (R-AZ) Regional Haze Regulatory Relief Amendment and the Navajo Generating Station Amendment, initiatives aimed at preserving jobs and shielding communities from increased water and electricity costs, were approved as part of the Stop the War on Coal Act (H.R. 3409). The act, a package of bills that collectively will scale-back the Obama Administration’s war on coal, passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 232 to 175.

Gosar (R-AZ) will be putting forth two amendments to the Stop the War on Coal Act (H.R. 3409) that are aimed at protecting rural Arizona’s four coal-fired power plants: Navajo Generating Station (NGS) near Page, Coronado Generating Station (CGS) near St. Johns, the Cholla Power Plant near Joseph City, and the Apache Generating Station (AGS) near Willcox.
