On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 5954, under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. H.R. 5954 was introduced by Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA) on June 18, 2012, and was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which reported the bill by unanimous consent on September 20, 2012.
H.R. 5954 would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 320 7th Street in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, as the “Sergeant Leslie H. Sabo, Jr. Post Office Building.”
On May 10, 1970, Sergeant Leslie Sabo and his platoon were ambushed by North Vietnamese soldiers. Amidst heavy fire, he ran to distribute ammunition to his fellow soldiers and was wounded as he threw himself over a wounded comrade to shield him from a grenade blast. Despite his wounds, Sabo fired and provided cover to medical evacuation helicopters as they retrieved wounded soldiers. Sabo was then killed by enemy fire. He was recently awarded the Medal of Honor.
