Protecting Your Health Care Freedom

Dear Friends:

This week the new House Majority kept its misguided promise to try to repeal the landmark new health-care law.  This unfortunate action would, if it were to pass the Senate and be signed into law, take away critical new health-care freedoms and consumer protections from you and your family that are now law under the Affordable Care Act.  I voted against this repeal legislation because it would allow insurance companies once more to be the sole judge in rationing your health care and making your medical decisions for you.

What specifically does repealing the health-care law mean for the 5th Congressional District of New York if it were to be successful?  Repeal would mean that parents of 2,400 young adults up to age 26 in OUR community would no longer be able to keep their children on their health insurance.  Repeal would mean that as many as 335,000 constituents in OUR District would lose the vital consumer protection from annual and lifetime spending limits on coverage.  And repeal would mean that seniors in Medicare would lose FREE annual preventative and wellness care.  Read how this repeal bill would impact you and your neighbors:

Impact of Repealing the Affordable Care Act in our District

Please know that I will continue to fight against the new Majority's effort to strip you of these new protections.  Taking a step backwards by siding with health-insurance companies and their lobbyists over the American people is simply not an option.

Sincerely,

Gary L. Ackerman
