- I had the opportunity to meet Kevin and Julia Dixon, and their daughter Janel, earlier this week at the La Cañada Flintridge Festival in Lights. About 100 local children attended the event and got to meet Santa - and a few of his reindeer!

With its latest provocative missile tests, North Korea is playing a dangerous game in one of the world's most volatile regions. Yesterday’s launch came despite warnings from the international community and in direct violation of multiple U....N. Security Council resolutions, and the United States will be working closely with our regional partners, as well as the other members of the Security Council to fashion a response. There is concern among observers of the DPRK, that the Pyongyang government will be tempted to increase the regional tension even further by testing a nuclear device – this must be stopped.See More
Nuclear proliferation and the danger of a nuclear terrorist incident remain the greatest national security threats we face. Over the past four years, the Obama Administration has made great strides with nonproliferation – increasing pressure on Iran, and working with the international community to reduce stockpiles of nuclear weapons and material. We must continue this proactive drive, and prevent more rogue nations and actors from increasing worldwide nuclear tensions and risks.- LikesSee All

- Today, I met with Dr. Elachi and Dr. O’Toole from JPL to talk about the recent developments with the Mars Curiosity Rover and the newly announced plans for the 2020 launch of another lander. For the past year, we've worked together to ensur...e that the scientists and engineers who made the Curiosity project possible can continue their important work, and that we have a healthy Mars and Planetary Science budget. The announcement of the 2020 lander and the award of the discovery class mission earlier in the year mark a very positive and encouraging change in fortune for the lab and the broader scientific endeavors. But our work on the budget is not over by any means.See More

- Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to participate in the Montrose Christmas Parade and the Western Diocese Christmas Ball. These events have long served as kick-off events for the holiday season in our communities and I was proud to attend them both.
- Today is Human Rights Day -- a sobering reminder of the fragility of freedom and that promotion of human rights must remain a core principle of American foreign policy. As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds all foreign a...ssistance, and as founder and co-chair of the Congressional Press Freedom Caucus, I have made a special commitment to highlighting the importance of a free press to a functioning democracy and turning the spotlight on those who seek to muzzle the media. A free and untrammeled press is essential to the maintenance of human rights.See More
- Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to meet with Brian Banks and Justin Brooks of the California Innocence Project and hear Brian’s incredible story. In High School, Brian was a top football prospect for USC until false accusations wer...e levied against him. At 17, he was forced to accept a plea deal without the counsel of his parents and ultimately spent over five years in prison, despite being innocent. After contacting the California Innocence Project and their subsequent investigation, the person who leveled the original accusations admitted it was all a fabrication. Brian was released and exonerated earlier this year by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Kim. Since then, he has resumed following his dream by trying out for several NFL teams. After hearing his incredible story of strength and perseverance, I’m hopeful that we will see him on the gridiron one day.See More
The California Innocence Project reviews over 2,000 claims of innocence each year and looks to exonerate those who were convicted of crimes they did not commit. I’m incredibly proud to see crewmembers from Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena Water and Power agenices bringing personnel and equipment back to the East Coast to restore power after Hurricane Sandy. The recovery effort in the areas affected looks to be long and arduous, but by coming together, as Americans have, we can help those most in need and meet the challenges that lie ahead.- With the Supreme Court’s decision to hear arguments on the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 which defines marriage as exclusively between a man and a women, I hope we have taken another step towards guaranteeing marriage equality under the law. I hope that the Court upholds the decision by the Court of Appeals, finding that Prop 8 was unconstitutionally discriminatory towards same-s...ex couples who simply want to exercise their basic human right to marry the person of their choosing. I also hope the Supreme Court strikes down the Defense of Marriage Act, which has prevented many couples from enjoying the full rights of marriage.See More
I look forward to the day when the right of any couple to marry is guaranteed everywhere in the nation. Adam Schiff shared a link.
Really positive news this morning as it was announced that our economy added 147,000 private sector jobs in November, causing the unemployment rate to drop to 7.7%. But while our economy continues to create jobs, it’s clear that we still ha...ve much more work to do. Congress should build on this positive economic news and resolve the "fiscal cliff." This precarious situation has made businesses, both small and large, hesitant to commit resources towards new jobs and wage increases.See MoreAdam Schiff shared a link.
I commend All Saints Episcopal Church for hosting the Muslim Public Affairs Council convention as part of its efforts to build an interfaith understanding based on shared values. I was deeply distressed to learn of the hateful and vitriolic...messages that the church has received. Yet, these odious emails will only increase our determination to fight bigotry and increase understanding. I wish both the Church and MPAC a successful convention and know that they will not be deterred by the hateful speech of the intolerant.See More- It was wonderful to meet Foreign Minister Mirzoyan, and hear his perspective on the economic and security issues in Artsakh. And we also discussed the appalling extradition and release of Ramil Safarov, and its effect on a peaceful resolution of conflict in the region.See More

- Today is World AIDS Day. By raising awareness across the globe, we can continue the remarkable results witnessed in the past decade. We’ve already seen a 50% reduction in the rate of new HIV infections in 25 low and middle-income countries, but by pushing for more prevention and treatment, I’m confident that we can see an AIDS free generation in the near future.
Infographic Credit: Sidney Borum Jr. Health Center - Looking for your feedback -- with the Bush-era tax cuts expiring and automatic federal spending cuts due to take effect at the end of the year, independent economists have said the combination of both tax increases and automatic spending cuts found in sequestration would be incredibly harmful to our recovery. While Congress has begun negotiations to solve this problem and prevent us from going over the “fiscal cliff”, what do you think is the best path forward? Do you support extending the Bush era tax cuts for everyone making under $250,000? And what, if any, federal programs do you think should be cut?

Great to see California’s economy rebounding! By experiencing its largest month-to-month drop in unemployment ever, home sales rising 25% in October and the prospect of a budget surplus in 2014, California’s economic recovery is beginning to take shape.- I was honored to participate in the 81st Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade this past weekend. Good news today with companies in the U.S. increasing their orders of machinery and other equipment by the largest amount in five months. I’m hopeful that this renewed investment will continue, and that companies will also hire new workers and raise wages, which have been stagnant for years.- ActivityDecemberPeople Who Like This18
