  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Betty Sutton Statement on U.S. Steel Expansion in Lorain

Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton issued the following statement on U.S. Steel's announcement expanding its steel tube plant production in Lorain, OH.

"Today's announcement is great news for the workers at the Lorain U.S. Steel plant and for the new workers they will be hiring," said Rep. Sutton. "By enforcing our trade laws in 2009's monumental OCTG case, we provided the hardworking men and women at the Lorain U.S. Steel plant the opportunity to compete with the rest of the world on a level playing field. Because of the OCTG case, the seamless pipe case, and the efforts by management and the workers, U.S. Steel is able to expand and reinvest in the Lorain facility, creating more jobs and making our community stronger."

"Through the enforcement of our trade laws, our domestic steel industry is able to compete on a level playing field," said Don Golden; President, United Steelworkers Local 1104. "We thank Congresswoman Sutton for her leadership and battling for the well-being of our workers and industry."

Rep. Sutton testified at both the preliminary conference and final hearing on behalf of the domestic steel industry during the 2009 investigations on Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) market case, where it was determined that China violated international trade law by illegally subsidizing steel pipe and selling below fair market value.

Rep. Sutton also testified at the final U.S. International Trade Commission hearing for seamless pipe case and submitted a letter she organized that was signed by 11 bipartisan Members of the Ohio Congressional delegation urging the ITC to fully and effectively enforce trade laws.
