  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Sutton Announces $25,878 for the Coventry Township Fire Department

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) announced that the Coventry Township Fire Department has been awarded a $25,878 grant under the Fiscal Year 2009 Assistance to Fire fighters Grant (AFG) Program.  Funding from this grant will be used to: replace an obsolete, thermal-imaging camera to help fire fighters locate victims in smoky conditions or in conditions with compromised visibility; replace a 20-year-old supply line fire hose; and purchase new HIPPA- and blood-borne-pathogen compliant rescue jackets.   This funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.

"Our fire fighters provide critically important services to safeguard our families and communities," Rep. Sutton said.  "This much-needed support will provide our fire fighters with the equipment they need to continue their vital work."

"We are thrilled to hear this news, and we appreciate the help of Congresswoman Betty Sutton and every government official who has helped sustain our services, because we couldn't live without it," said Coventry Township Fire Chief David Calderone.  "Although everyone has shrinking budgets, our job doesn't shrink at all. If it weren't for these grants we wouldn't be able to maintain as high a level of service."

Since 2001, the AFG has provided approximately $4 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
