  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Sutton Issues Statement Following Afghanistan Troop Announcement

Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton (OH-13) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s announcement that the United States will begin to withdraw forces from Afghanistan:

“While I agree with President Obama on withdrawing troops from Afghanistan starting this year, the number of troops withdrawn needs to be increased and the timeline accelerated.

As we approach the 10 year anniversary of September 11, 2001, we can look back on the great progress made by our brave men and women in uniform, some of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms. We have killed Osama Bin Laden and denied Al Qaeda a critical base of operations. Now the time has come to honor those troops by bringing them home.

As we remain grateful to and honor our troops, the time has come to appropriately transfer responsibility for the development and security of Afghanistan to the Afghani people and focus on revitalizing our economy and creating much-needed jobs here at home.”

Congresswoman Sutton is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and has a strong record of supporting our brave men and women in uniform and standing up for America’s veterans. Sutton led the way in ensuring that soldiers affected by the military’s “stop-loss” policy received pay for their service and co-sponsored the 21st Century G.I. Bill, which restores full, four-year college scholarships for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
