  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Sutton Secures $500,000 to Rehabilitate Historic Structures Within Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) secured $500,000 to restore, rehabilitate and stabilize major structures within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This funding will also be used for riverbank stabilization and will stem severe erosion to the riverbanks that support the Valley Railway and the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Funding for this project was secured from H.R. 2996, the FY2010 Interior Appropriations Act. The Act passed in the Senate today and will go to the President to be signed into law.

"The future of our country and our planet depends on the investments we make today to preserve our magnificent natural resources," Rep. Sutton said. "This funding is critical to preserving existing structures within our treasured Cuyahoga Valley National Park."

This funding is needed in Fiscal Year 2010 to continue the park's ongoing historic property rehabilitations. Included in the project are the rehabilitation of the Holland and Underwood Farmsteads, critically needed stabilization of the Brown-Bender barn and exterior rehabilitation of the historic Tilden House.

Rep. Sutton worked with Rep. LaTourette to secure this funding.
