Santa Claus Visits Iraq
An Iraqi girl waits for the arrival of Santa Claus during a holiday-themed meeting of the Victory Base Council scouting program on Victory Base Complex, Iraq, Dec. 20, 2008. The Victory Base Council is a group of volunteers who are working towards helping local Iraqis establish a scouting program of their own. Each week, the council gathers and leads the children through a number of events including crafts, sports and team-building events.

Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, along with his wife Deborah, welcomed musician Zac Brown; comedians John Bowman, Kathleen Madigan and Lewis Black; actress Tichina Arnold; American Idol contestant and country musician Kellie Pickler on the tour. The group brought music and entertainment to servicemembers and their families stationed overseas.

K-9 Team Brings Added Capabilities to Rashid District

U.S. Air Force Basic Expeditionary Airman Skills and Training
A new five-day deployment exercise called the Basic Expeditionary Airman Skills and Training, nicknamed BEAST, kicked off on Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, Dec. 15, 2008. BEAST has been added to the eight-and-a-half week Basic Military Training curriculum that began Nov. 5.

Mullen Visits Patrol Base Olsen and Tours Samarra, Iraq
Maj. Gen. Robert Caslen, commanding general, Multinational Division North, escorts U.S. Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on a tour of Patrol Base Olsen, Samarra, Iraq, Dec. 18, 2008. Mullen is visiting the base with plans to meet with residents of the area in the shadows of the Golden Dome Mosque that was nearly destroyed in 2006 by extremists. Along with his wife Deborah, Mullen is touring the Central Command Area of Responsibility as host of 2008 USO Holiday Tour.
