ENGEL JOINS CARIBBEAN LEADERS IN ISRAEL; URGES SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL AND "NO" VOTE ON UN PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD RESOLUTION

Washington, DC -- Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY-17) accompanied a delegation of high ranking officials from the Caribbean nations of Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis last week on a visit to Israel.  He talked to the Caribbean leaders not only about Israel and the reasons to oppose the upcoming vote at the United Nations on Palestinian statehood, but also about his amendment to put U.S. embassies in the five Caribbean countries where we have now have none.  Rep. Engel, the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, and the Caribbean delegation met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Palestinian Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad.
