  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Sutton Blasts Senate Republicans for Blocking Consideration of Employee Free Choice Act

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton blasted Republicans in the U.S. Senate for blocking consideration of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), legislation that will ensure workers have a free choice and a fair chance to form a union.  Sutton led floor debate as the House passed EFCA in March despite objections from House Republicans.

"It is extremely troubling that the Senate has turned its back on American workers by refusing to vote on the Employee Free Choice Act," Sutton said.  "This legislation would protect hardworking Americans from coercion, intimidation and retribution for seeking fair treatment in their workplace.  I was hopeful the Senate would send a message that protecting workers' rights is a priority.  Senate Republicans have demonstrated they are more interested in bending to corporate special interests than in ensuring that workers are free from abusive tactics in the workplace.  I urge the Senate to quickly reconsider and bring the Employee Free Choice Act to a vote so Congress can send this vital legislation to the President."
