(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today welcomed the passage of a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of American Gold Star Mothers.

The Senate resolution, authored by Dr. Coburn, also urges the American people to observe Sept. 25, 2005, as Gold Star Mothers Day.

“Losing a child in service to our country is a tragic but noble sacrifice.  I thank Gold Star Mothers for bearing this burden,” Dr. Coburn said.  “Words will not heal their wounds but we can assure these mothers their sacrifice and that of their children will never be forgotten.”

American Gold Star Mothers is an organization of mothers who have had a child die while in service to the country. The group is a federally chartered organization and works closely with many other veterans groups.
