Charlie Dent

Charlie Dent was elected to Congress in 2004, representing Pennsylvania’s 15th District, which includes all or parts of Lehigh, Northampton, Montgomery, and Berks counties.

Congressman Dent currently serves on two House committees: Homeland Security and Transportation and Infrastructure. His record reflects his support for job-creating economic policy, fiscal responsibility, effective homeland security measures, and strict adherence to Constitutional separation of powers. In Congress, Charlie has put forward the priorities of the 15th District, such as infrastructure funding, urban redevelopment and crime prevention.

Congressman Dent is also one of the four founding co-chairmen of the bipartisan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Caucus, which seeks to decrease America’s dependence on foreign oil. Congressman Dent introduced legislation to foster the development of commercial hydrogen fueling stations as part of his Hydrogen Highway East initiative.

Born May 24, 1960, Charlie is a life-long Lehigh Valley resident. He was born and raised in Allentown, the son of Marjorie and the late Walter R. "Pete" Dent. Charlie and his wife Pamela live in Allentown with their three children, Kathryn, William and Jack. Charlie is a 1978 graduate of William Allen High School, earning a degree in Foreign Service and International Politics from the Pennsylvania State University in 1982 and a Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1993 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Charlie worked as a development officer for Lehigh University, a salesman in the electronics industry and an aide to former U.S. Rep. Don Ritter. Charlie served eight years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and six years in the Pennsylvania Senate, where he established a reputation as an independent voice for his constituents.
