GOODLATTE WELCOMES NEW AND RETURNING GOP MEMBERS TO JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
Washington, D.C.: Today Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), incoming Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, welcomed new and returning Republican members to the House Judiciary Committee for the 113th Congress.
“I am pleased to welcome these members to the Judiciary Committee for the 113th Congress,” said Chairman-elect Goodlatte. “The House Judiciary Committee will play an active role in advancing a pro-growth agenda that will help to create jobs and restore economic prosperity to America. These new members will certainly play an important role in achieving these goals and I look forward to working with them.”
Returning Republican Committee Member:
Rep. Spencer Bachus (AL-06) – Rep. Bachus received his law degree from the University of Alabama Law School. He previously served on the Judiciary Committee until 2007 when he took a leave of absence to serve as Ranking Member and then Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
New Republican Committee Members (Alphabetical):
Rep. Blake Farenthold (TX-27) – Rep. Farenthold received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to his arrival in Congress in 2011, Rep. Farenthold founded a computer consulting and web design firm.
Rep. Raul Labrador (ID-01) – Rep. Labrador received his law degree from the University of Washington, School of Law in Seattle, Washington. Prior to arriving in Congress in 2011, Rep. Labrador had a successful law practice in Nampa and Boise, Idaho.
Freshman Republican Committee Members (Alphabetical):
Rep. Doug Collins (GA-09) – Rep. Collins received his law degree from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, Georgia and is a former small business owner. He is an attorney and Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He is presently serving his third term in the Georgia House.
Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) – Rep. DeSantis received his law degree from Harvard Law School. While studying at Harvard he earned a commission as a JAG officer in the United States Navy.
He has also served as a federal prosecutor and as a military prosecutor.
Rep. George Holding (NC-13) – Rep. Holding received his law degree from Wake Forest University. He served on the staff of U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. In 2006, after four years serving as top Assistant U.S. Attorney, he was appointed U.S. Attorney for Eastern North Carolina.
Rep. Keith Rothfus (PA-12) – Rep. Rothfus received his law degree from Notre Dame Law School. He has been an attorney in the private sector, working with large and small businesses. Additionally, he has worked in the Department of Homeland Security.
The House Republican Steering Committee has recommended these committee assignments and they are expected to be approved by the Republican Conference and the full House of Representatives once the 113th Congress convenes in January.
