The terrorist attacks of September 11th forever changed the way we view national security. Creating the Department of Homeland Security was one important step in preparing our nation to meet the rising challenge of terrorism. But there is still more to do.

Congress must be relentless in our efforts to equip our military, law enforcement officials and intelligence agencies with the best, most effective tools available so they can keep us safe. I am confident that better intelligence will lead to increased safety, not only here at home, but also for our deployed soldiers and diplomats around the globe.

Of course, amid the effort to restructure our homeland defense, the freedoms contained within the Bill of Rights must be protected. I know we can aggressively pursue terrorists and their supporters while still maintaining the rights afforded to us in our Constitution.
