Weber County

Weber County has been a historical crossroads along the Wasatch Mountain Range. Located just north of Salt Lake City, the state capitol, the county reaches far west along the coast of the Great Salt Lake, and climbs high into the Wasatch Mountains. Founded by early American trappers, this area was first reported by Jim Bridger, who recounts his discovery of the Great Salt Lake. Weber County has grown into a large metropolitan area with Ogden as its county seat. In the 2008 Census it was reported that nearly 227,000 people live in the county and it remains one of the major population centers of the state. Due to its strategic advantage of being so close to Salt Lake City and the Utah Salt Flats, the military built Hill Air Force Base during the Second World War to train pilots and test new flight systems. The base has continued to flourish, employing many of Weber’s residents and remains a great asset to the U.S. Air Force.
