About Us
Who We Are
The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) is a non-partisan, non-legislative office that provides support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff.
What We Do
CAO professional, technical, and administrative staff provide finance, information technology, cyber security, procurement, logistics, and human resource services.
Acquisitions Management
Procurement experts within the CAO manage acquisitions, purchases, and contracts for the CAO and, upon request, other House offices.
Finance
The Office of Finance meets the accounting, payroll, and benefit services needs for the House. This team produces the quarterly Statement of Disbursements, which accounts for all expenditures by House Members and staff.
House Information Resources
House Information Resources provides technology services, technical support, cyber security, and telecommunications for the House. This unit also hosts websites for hundreds of Members and Committees and manages the website for the House of Representatives, House.gov
House Recording Studio
When Members want to connect with constituents they often use the resources of the House Recording Studio. The HRS provides videotape and audio recording facilities for broadcast and Web formats. The studio also provides live coverage of House floor proceedings and Committee Hearings.
Human Resources
The Office of Human Resources hires, trains, and develops the CAO workforce. The group administers the Employee Assistance Team and oversees the House Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program and the House Learning Center.
Logistics and Support
There are tens of thousands of pieces of furniture and equipment in the hundreds of House offices. The management and logistics of building, refurbishing, supplying, and moving furnishings, assets, and equipment is the responsibility of the craftsmen and workers of the Office of Logistics and Support. This group also oversees a supply store, graphics, photography, and "First Call," a one-stop service center for Members and staff.
Media Galleries
The CAO facilitates three House media galleries for coverage of the House.
- Since 1879, the House Press Gallery has worked with Representatives and reporters so that each group has the access they need to each other.
- The Radio-Television Correspondents Gallery services broadcasters who cover the House of Representatives. The gallery serves as a liaison between Congressional offices and the electronic media.
- The Periodical Press Gallery assists correspondents working for a magazine, newsletter, non-daily newspaper, or on-line publication.
All of the galleries provide journalists with work space, credentials, and access to House Members and proceedings.
