Kerry Bentivolio as an “ACU Conservative” for his achievements in the 2013 ACU Ratings of Congress, the 43rd edition of the conservative ratings guide.  Since 1971, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization has annually graded Members of Congress based on their votes on key conservative issues.

I voted “no” on H.R. 4152 which sought “to provide for the costs of loan guarantees for Ukraine”. This legislation adds Ukraine to a list of countries eligible to receive assistance through the Economic Support Fund (ESF). The ESF is essentially a stimulus fund for foreign countries -- which is paid for by the US taxpayer. ESF grants are typically used on items like education, rural development, and transportation. The grants cannot be used for military assistance.

Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.) on Wednesday proposed a new bill that would require congressional salaries to be cut 15 percent any time Congress fails to balance the budget.

Bentivolio said his Spending Accountability Act, H.R. 3993, is needed to give Congress an incentive to cut the annual budget deficit, which is now at $600 billion per year and expected to rise.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Kerry Bentivolio announced his co-sponsorship of HR 2967, the Intergeneration Financial Obligations (INFORM) Act. Several estimates suggest that the federal government has tens of trillions on dollars in unfunded liabilities. The INFORM Act requires the federal government to expose the truth about those unfunded liabilities by reporting various statistics throughout the budgeting process, allowing Americans to assess the promises being made by Congress.

The situation in Washington is hectic, and conditions are changing quickly, but I wanted to take a moment to give you a quick update on where things stand right now.
 
First and foremost: the shut-down will not affect Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security payments.   And yesterday, Congress unanimously passed legislation ensuring military members, some federal civilian personnel, and some federal contractors their pay even if funds for other government operations expire.
