Rep. Israel Introduces Resolution to Recognize February 4th as National Cancer Prevention Day

Feb 4, 2014
Press Release
As founder and co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus, Israel has stressed how small changes in our lifestyle can go a long way in prevention

Washington, D.C.— Today, Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) introduced a bipartisan resolution supporting the designation of February 4th as National Cancer Prevention Day. Israel is the founder and co-chair of the House Cancer Caucus and has long fought to raise awareness of cancer prevention.

Rep. Israel said, “This year alone, it is estimated that 1,600 Americans will die every day from cancer. This is simply unacceptable. My resolution to designate February 4th as National Cancer Prevention Day will help remind us that when we think about cancer, we must also keep in mind prevention and reducing risk and how simple behavioral changes can go a long way.”

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 1,665,540 new cancer cases and 585,720 cancer deaths in 2014. This means roughly 1,600 deaths per day.
